Building Leaders to "Impact the World in Which They Live"

Providence Leadership Institute (PLI) provides 10th thru 12th grade high school students a unique and highly engaging opportunity to gain insights into leadership strategies and develop their leadership skills. The three-year PLI curriculum is specifically designed to help students more fully discover and develop their unique and God-given gifts and talents to lead within their homes, communities, churches, and businesses.

This dynamic program will have a life-long impact in helping high school students fulfill God’s calling on their lives as leaders.

The goal of Providence Leadership Institute is to equip students to positively "impact the world in which they live". Their ability to impact the world will depend on their ability to influence those around them...in other words, to be a leader.

Frequently Asked Questions

"I’m not sure that I am a leader. Should I consider applying for Providence Leadership Institute?" Definitely. We all have many opportunities to lead. You have frequent opportunities to influence your classmates to pursue God’s best. Once you leave high school you will have repeated opportunities to influence others on your college campus and eventually in your family, community, church and profession.

"Is leadership really so important?" Yes! God calls each of us to be salt and light. Salt and light both impact any environment where they are present. If we are to fulfill this command, we must learn how to effectively impact those around us, or in other words, how to lead.

"Why are the sessions held on Sunday evenings? Doesn’t this conflict with attending Sunday evening church services?" We recognize that Sunday evening is a conflict for some families. We regret that situation. However, we were committed to avoid further conflicts with homework and pre-existing extracurricular programs during the school week. Any other weekend time slots were deemed overly disruptive to family time.

"Who is eligible to enroll in the Providence Leadership Institute?" 10th, 11th and 12th grade Providence Christian Academy students are eligible to apply for the Providence Leadership Institute. A limited number of slots are available for students from other schools.

"Where will the sessions be held?" Most sessions will be held at Providence. We may take certain sessions offsite where we believe the location will facilitate learning those concepts.

"Will there be homework?" There will not be any formal homework, tests or grades. However, there will be some pre-session preparation and/or recommended follow-up activities to apply lessons imparted during certain sessions.

"What is the cost?" People in the corporate world often pay thousands of dollars to attend programs like PLI. There is no tuition fee for the Year 1 program; although participating families may be asked to support the cost of weekly meals. To the extent possible, all program costs are covered by charitable donations. [If you would like to support the program monetarily, you may make checks to Providence Christian Academy and designate the "Providence Leadership Institute" on the check.]

"How do I apply for the Providence Leadership Institute?" You may pick up an application form from the PCA high school office or download a copy off this website by clicking the link to the right.

"What are the dates of the program?" The Year 1 program is conducted during the fall (typically during October and November). The Year 2 program is conducted during the winter.

"Who are the presenters?" The Leadership Institute speakers are exceptional business leaders and presenters with a passion for mentoring others from a God-centered, Bibilcal worldview. These leaders are some of the best speakers available for each Institute topic.

"What requirements must I meet to participate in the Providence Leadership Institute?" Participants must describe in writing why they want to participate; secure the signatures of two character sponsors-one from the Providence faculty/staff and the other from outside the Providence faculty/staff; commit to attend every session and take the program seriously. The Year 1 program is limited to the first 50 student applicants. We select participants based predominantly on commitment to learn, not on leadership capability. Participants who miss two sessions agree to leave the program.

"Are these just like another class or lecture?" No! We have identified dynamic business leaders and presenters who facilitate highly engaging, interactive, and stimulating sessions. [Sessions are patterned after corporate workshops, not boring lectures.]
