James “Jim” Vaught has over thirty years of experience in the field of
education. His breadth of experience includes work in four types of school
systems including, the public education system, a privately owned Christian
school, a church sponsored school, and an independent Christian school. In
addition to being a teacher, he has served at the administration level for over
20 years as an elementary principal, high school principal, and currently as
founding headmaster of Providence Christian Academy, established in the fall of
1991.
In the 15 years as Providence’s headmaster, the school’s enrollment has more
than doubled in size and the campus has grown from six and one-half acres to 24
acres. Despite these accomplishments, however, Mr. Vaught is admired most for
his loyalty to the vision and mission of the school.
“Having worked closely with Mr. Vaught the last several years, I have grown to
deeply appreciate his unwavering commitment to the mission and vision of
Providence. He has a passion for the student and the God-given potential each
one possesses, for our teaching faculty and the unique opportunity they possess
to have impact in the classroom both academically and spiritually, and for the
parents, as he desires Providence to be an effective partner with them as an
extension of their Christian home,“ explained Vance Garrison, chairman of the
board of directors.
Mr. Vaught began working in Christian education after teaching in the Dekalb
County school system. Vaught says his inspiration to move into Christian
education came from “God’s encouragement to pursue a biblical worldview in
which life is not divided into secular and spiritual.”
Mr. Vaught received his Bachelor of Science and Master of Arts in Education
Administration and Supervision, with certifications in secondary math and
elementary education from Tennessee Technological University, Cookeville, TN.
He is also currently enrolled in the Doctor of Education Program for
Educational Leadership at Columbia International University.
Having served 24 years in the Army National Guard, he was not only a leader in
local natural disaster recoveries, but also in Saudi Arabia and Iraq as part of
six months Federal active duty during Desert Storm. He retired as a Lieutenant
Colonial in 2000. He has been an active member in the Association of Christian
Schools International (ACSI) as a District Representative for Georgia and on
the Regional Accreditation Commission.
