Axis (Weekly Time of Worship)

This weekly time of worship for students and faculty in the High School was named “Axis” because an axis is considered to be a line around which other objects rotate; it is considered the center of rotation. At Providence, worship of God is the center of all that happens; therefore, Axis is designed to be the framework on which everything else is attached. It is even scheduled at mid-day Wednesday, the center of the school week.

Axis is structured to communicate the timeless truths of God’s Word in a way that engages the hearts and minds of our students. In addition to student-led praise and worship, video, music, and verbal exposition of biblical truth are woven together in an effective and coherent manner.

The Axis Planning Committee maintains a separate Web site devoted to Axis where students can download video, post comments, see the speaker schedule, and much more. Go to http://www.pcaaxis.com.

Discipleship Groups

As part of Providence Christian Academy’s vision to partner with Christian homes in developing young men and women who are growing in their walk with Christ, high school students have the opportunity to be involved in on-campus discipleship programs.

The eighth grade girls’ group, started by Administrative Assistant and Registrar , meets once a week during the hour-long lunch period. Weekly guest speakers lead the girls through discussions on song lyrics, celebrity quotes, Scripture and life stories. The focus of the group is to promote unity, honesty, dynamic spiritual growth, and fun. The eighth grade boys will soon have the opportunity to experience a similar group setting.

Juniors and seniors disciple freshmen and sophomores during Bible study times set up twice a month by the administration. Teachers and head up the girls discipleship groups, and Director of Student Leadership oversees the boys discipleship groups. Discipleship groups are an effective way to reach the underclassmen and build strong relationships between the students.

For more information about these discipleship groups, please contact the teacher sponsors or visit the Student Activities section of our Web site.

Encounter (Annual Retreats)

Encounter is an experience each high school student experiences each fall. These events are held at off-campus sites in late September of each year. Sub freshmen and freshmen have two-night experiences at separate facilities, while sophomores, juniors, and seniors enjoy their “encounters” together. The purposes of these times include building community in our school, growing in our own God-encounters, and preparing for the challenges that await us during the school year. The Senior Class spends five days at “Encounter” to help draw them to being firmly rooted and grounded in their faith, and the sophomores and juniors arrive on the third day. These days have proven to be some of the most significant in helping new students acclimate to Providence, while serving as a vibrant point of renewal and strengthening for our returning students as well. Guest speakers and musicians accompany us at each “Encounter” location. (Expenses for these days are included in the tuition.) The Encounter for the upperclassmen is designed by a team of students who begin preparing nine months prior to the event. The Encounter Team is composed of seven seniors along with two juniors and two sophomores.

Spiritual Emphasis

During the spring, our Spiritual Emphasis days are conducted. During the two-day emphasis, we will dismiss all academic classes and augment the schedule to accommodate our sessions of worship and teaching. These days are a vital point of spiritual guidance and renewal for many of our students and faculty. They serve as a wonderful time of focusing on God’s work in our lives, His encouragement for us, and His love to us.
