Overview
The Technology Department’s purpose is to see that the students are equipped
with the ethical knowledge and technical skills needed to be a contributing
influence in our society today. Our courses, therefore, allow for the
confrontation and discussion of legal as well as ethical issues that are
continually faced in the realm of technology. Our curriculum spans the basics
from keyboarding to the awakening of creative talents that God has placed
within every individual.
Keyboarding 7.47200 .5 CRE
This one semester Independent Study Course uses the program MicroType. Students
learn touch-typing techniques with emphasis on speed and accuracy. This course
is recommended for students who never received formal keyboarding instruction.
(No prerequisite, offered first or second semester)
Introduction to Multimedia Application 7.48610 .5 CRE
This one semester course contains many units. Students will receive an
introduction to using Movie Maker, Publisher, Photoshop, HTML, and Robotics.
Students will engage in real problem solving and collaborative learning, while
engaging technology concepts at a concrete level. (No prerequisite, offered
first or second semester)
Computer Application 7.44110 .5 CRE
This one semester course is an introduction to basic computer skills. Students
will receive a review of basic keyboarding skills. Students learn about the
basic parts of a computer, and how to use the Internet effectively. Students
will broaden their knowledge of what a computer can do for them through the use
of word processing, spreadsheets, and presentation software. This course
enhances computer and analytical skills in the areas of mathematics, language
arts, social studies, and fine arts. (No prerequisite, offered first or second
semester)
Web Page Design 11.43100 .5 CRE
This is a one semester long course where students design and create web pages.
Students insert text images, create links, modify page properties, insert meta
tags, edit HTML code, insert tables, use templates, and create and animate
rollovers. Students will learn how to use Fireworks to optimize images and
animate graphics. (No prerequisite, offered first or second semester)
Advanced Web Page Design 11.43100 .5 CRE
This is a semester long course. Students will use Macromedia Flash. Students
will learn the skills needed to create interesting, graphics-rich movies that
include sound, animation, and interactivity. (Prerequisite – Introduction to
Web Page Design, course instructor permission required, offered second
semester.)
Visual Arts/Graphics I 50.07210 .5 CRE
This semester long course guides students through the basics of Adobe Photoshop
7. Concepts learned will include basic photo editing, working with layers,
making selections, adjusting color, using paint tools, liquefying an image,
using filters and special effects to enhance projects, and create
professional-looking documents. This course also touches on the legal and
ethical consideration of image making. (Teacher approval required, offered
first or second semester.) Grades 10-12. May fulfill half of the 1.0 required
Fine Arts credit.
Visual Arts/Graphics II 50.07220 .5 CRE
Students will use various software programs that allow for the creation of
animated work. Topics will include modeling basics, using layers, motion
tweens, timelines, action buttons, action scripting for animation, constraints,
relationships, and rendering. (Teacher approval required, offered second
semester.) Grades 10-12. May fulfill half of the 1.0 required Fine Arts credit.
Video Production 8.4740001 .5 CRE
This course is a combination study of marketing, public relations, and
advertising. Students learn fundamentals and key principles for each. Field
trips and guest speakers from the related industries provide a practical
perspective to students. Students are also active in application of the
fundamentals and principles of these disciplines during various projects
related to school events.
