Course Selection Process
Eleventh grade students begin the course selection process in February at a
parent meeting with one of the Guidance Office counselors. This is called their
Junior Review. The Guidance Office schedules the rest of the underclassmen in
groups during school hours, and usually finishes by the end of March. Families
should use the Course Content Guide and
Course Sequence Chart for researching appropriate courses available for
selection. Parents must sign the
Course Selection Form and the student must return it to the Guidance
Office in order to receive a schedule for the next school year. Changes can be
made through the last day of school in May. Changes after that are not allowed,
except for the reasons listed on the form and in the handbook.

school days in advance, and provide a resume. Contact the Guidance Office
Registrar for more details at 770-279-3929.
College Fairs – There are two major fairs each year. The CollegePROBE
Fair is held in the fall, and is organized by the Georgia School Finance
Commission. For more information, go to
www.gaprobe.org. There is also a Spring College Fair held in downtown
Atlanta. For more information go to
www.nacacnet.org. For up to date information on additional college fairs,
check the Providence high school news.
College Search Web Site
– Access the Georgia Career Information Center’s Web site, which provides
current and accurate occupational and educational information in order to help
you make informed career choices through its Georgia Career Information System
(GCIS). A user name and password has been purchased for you by the school, and
can be accessed here.
Financial Aid Information – For HOPE information, go to
www.GAcollege411.org. Another useful Web site is
www.fafsa.ed.gov. Here you can download the FAFSA worksheet and form used
for HOPE, federal, and state aid. Most colleges use this form, as well, when
considering a financial need for a family. Parents should check the deadline of
each college their student may attend as to the deadline for completing the
FAFSA if seeking any aid based on financial need. Deadlines usually fall
between Feb. 1 and March 15.
